The NeverEnding Story (1984)

Bastian Bux is a young boy and a frequent daydreamer, much to the dismay of his father. Bastian's mother died early in his youth; his father is now raising Bastian alone. On his way to school he is spotted by three bullies, who throw him in a dumpster in an alley. When he emerges from the container, the bullies chase him again and he hides in a bookstore. He meets librarian Mr. Koreander while reading a book. When Bastian asks to read the book ("The Neverending Story"), the man replies that the book is "not safe." Ignoring his warnings, Bastian borrows the book when Mr. Koreander is distracted by a telephone call - he does, however, leave a note promising to return it. He then heads for school, only to realize that not only is he late for class, but there is a math test in progress. He heads upstairs to the school's attic, where he starts to read the book.

The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990)

Bastian Bux is having troubles at home: his father, Barney, cannot relate to him -- his busy workload is keeping him from spending time with his son and Bastian's fear of high places is hurting him on the swim team. Bastian flees from his problems to an old bookstore, when after picking up the NeverEnding Story book, he hears the Childlike Empress tell him that he is needed to save Fantasia.

The NeverEnding Story III: Escape From Fantasia (1994)

Bastian Balthazar Bux has begun a new chapter in his life. His father has re-married, and now Bastian has a new step mother. A woman named Jane, whose daughter Nicole is displeased by having a new family. Bastian has also started high school, where he has become victim to the Nasties, a quintet of bullies led by Slip. He manages to get them expelled by the janitor after they trap him in the boiler room. He flees to the library where he is surprised to find Mr. Coreander and The Neverending Story. The Nasties locate him, but he uses the book to escape to Fantasia.
